People search and search for ways to be happy, but there is no great mystery in how to become happy.

You are responsible for your own happiness.

No one can do that for you.

Not your partner,

your children,

your parents,

your job…

no one.

You have to make yourself happy.

It’s all you.

So how does one become happy? Happiness is a choice.

Just like every other emotion is a choice, happiness is a choice. You get to decide how you feel about a situation. You get to decide if you’re going to participate in a situation. You get to decide if you leave a situation. It’s all on you.

Some may argue that some people don’t get to choose how much they have to work or how or where they live. I argue back, like heck they don’t! If you’re unhappy in your job, they get a new job. It may not be for the same pay or in the same field, but if you’re in an environment that you don’t want to be in and you stay there, that’s a choice that you are making. Could you change how and where you live to accommodate this new job? Yes. But a lot of the time people aren’t willing to.

If you want something you’ll find a way to get it, if not, you’ll find an excuse and then you dwell on that excuse as the reason why you’re unhappy. I know! I used to do it too!

If you want a vacation, then save up and take one! If you want to stay home with your babies, then figure out a way to cut costs to make that happen. It may mean moving into a smaller house or an apartment. It may mean getting a used car, instead of making payments on a new one. It may mean other life adjustments, but if that’s what you want, then go after it. These things that I have just mentioned are temporary anyway. No one says that you have to commit to anything permanently. It’s your choice.

You need to find the things that will make you happy and choose those. There’s always a way to do something, sometimes it just requires a little extra work on your part. Aren’t you worth that extra work?
