As I was washing my mug out this morning I noticed that we had far too many oranges to eat in a reasonable amount of time. So what could I do with them? I did a little research and decided to try a little project…or two.
I learned that there are several benefits to using orange peels. I own a dehydrator so i thought, why not put it to good use. I decided to try doing it two different ways: using a vegetable peeler and using a knife. The vegetable peeler was fairly easy and quick. The knife took a bit more time with having to cut the rind/pith off and then slicing it, but it wasn’t too time consuming.
They are now in the dehydrator and will need to be checked every so often for dryness. Once dried I plan on storing them in an airtight container and using them for teas, cooking, and baking. I’m excited to think about all of the benefits of the orange peels that I will now have readily at my disposal.
So as not to waste the rest of the oranges, I used my juicer to juice them down and put the juice into ice cube trays. These juice cubes will be used for adding to drinks, marinades, and anything else I can conjure up.
