I used to say that sentence to the classes that I taught as they would walk in line behind me and next to me. They thought I was just referring to them not turning around and talking to one another, and I suppose that was part of it but that wasn’t all of it. It was a way that I could start to interject the idea into their thoughts that you have to keep your eyes forward in order to move forward, not just down the hall, but in this world, in this life.
We have to let go of the idea of going back to what we used to have, what we used to do, and how things used to go. It doesn’t serve us to hang on to it. In fact, it’s weighing us down and tearing us apart trying to hold onto it. Learn from where we were. Grow from where we were. Move on from where we were. But our only direction is forward.
Nowadays you can hear me telling my running groups…heads up, eyes forward, lead with your heart. I’ll say it over and over again. I’m reminding them and I’m reminding me. Go forth in the direction that will serve you…forward. Go forward.
